Blossom

I took these pictures in a local park in north London. In fact this park is featured in some of our other articles, showing autumn colours and January snow

I think this is Hawthorn.

The tree on the right is a horse chestnut. They were just about to come into flower.

The gardeners had been busy in the park. There was the most wonderful scent of freshly cut grass everywhere. I love this time of year. Everything is so fresh and green. This grass in this corner of the park had been left to grow naturally as a wildlife area.

I can't pretend to be an expert on all the varieties of blossom I spotted. I do however know that this is an apple tree. There are a several of these trees in this part of the park.

I think that originally there was a row of houses on this spot. The trees have survived even though the houses are no longer there and the land has been incorporated into the park.

Not a very clear photograph I am afraid. However you should just about be able to see that this tree contains both pink and white blossom. Very unusual.

Here is the same tree showing both colours of blossom. Strange!

Of course it is not only the trees that are coming into flower. In the area of the park that has been allowed to grow wild to encourage our native plants I found some cow parsley and one of the first bluebells coming into flower.

Normally at this time of the year (April) we have lots of rain. We say ' April showers bring May flowers', but unusually we have had very little rain this last month. You can see how dry the grass looks. Usually in the Spring it is bright green.

However as I write this the sky is becoming dark, so maybe we are finally going to have some rain.
