This lovely bouquet
of roses and violets was adapted from an old needlepoint cushion cover, dating,
I would estimate, from the 1930's. Bouquets like this, tied with a bow are often
seen as embroidered motifs on tablecloths, tray cloths etc around this period as
well as on needlepoint items. The
pretty bouquet looks gorgeous as a Clippy Cover Girl bag insert but would also
make an attractive picture to frame. This
particular design is worked on a 10 Count plastic
canvas, in tent stitch.
This stitch is explained in the downloaded materials. Full instructions and a
colour chart to follow are also included in the download below. The
panel measures 22cm (8.6 inches) by 29.5cm (11.7inches). If you are making the
bag insert there is no background to
be stitched, just the central motif, and so a design like this can be completed
in a few evenings. Once
the design is finished a coloured sheet of card, material or foam is placed
behind the canvas to provide the contrasting colour. Although we have used a
mauve sheet of foam here, a white, cream, turquoise or pink background looks
equally pretty. You can change these sheets
from time to time to suit your mood or to match your outfit. The Clippy
bag and plastic canvas are
not included in the download, but can be purchased from our shop.
This
design looks equally pretty with a white, pink or mauve background.
