A Lace Exhibition in Yokohama -June 2006

In the summer of 2006 we were asked to contribute to the Yamanote Seiyokan Festa in Yokohama. The festival is held in the six old Western-style houses in the Yamonote area above Yokohama. This year's festival had the theme of 'flowers and tableware'. Different flower artists organize the displays in each house.

We lent a collection of our antique lace for the exhibition in the British House, which is Yokohama City's designated cultural property. Honma Sensei produced the wonderful floral displays for this house.

The additional theme in the British House was the Queen's birthday. Queen Elizabeth wass celebrating her 80th birthday in 2006. Three rooms were decorated, one in each of the colours of the British flag - red, white and blue. Our lace was displayed in the white room.

Here is one of the stunning floral displays in the blue room.

And here are some of the displays in the red room. So attractive!

An elegant dining room, with a formal display of linens, china and flowers set out, ready for dinner. There is also a small 'tea-time' display on a side table. I  hope some of our website visitors managed to attend the exhibition.
